I just got back from Blue Ridge GA on Wednesday. I was invited by my friends of 50 years, Willie and Charles Stancil. Charles and Ken worked together at Lockheed back in the 60s and the two families quickly became friends. At the time they had Doug and we had Kathy who were just 6 months apart. It was Doug’s and his wife Allison’s cabin in the mountains where we stayed. On Sunday their daughter NIcki and her family came and we spent some great time catching up. What is really special about this friendship is that Ken and I moved back to Knoxville about a year after we met them but we have kept up over the years, visited, camped, and enjoyed the times that we got to see them. When we are together it is just like we saw each other yesterday.
If you have not been to the mountains in North GA, I highly recommend it. The drive from Knoxville is beautiful, but the roads are winding. Weekends are very busy in Blue Ridge, but we visited on Monday and it was not crowded. Also if you are in the area, I recommend you go to an apple orchard called Mercier’s. They have fresh baked goods, honey, a brewery and of course, apples when they are in season.
It was good to have some time with friends, relax and see a new place.

I probably think more about election time than most because we design, print and mail a lot of political mail. When I stop to think about the history of our country and how many men and women have died to give us the privilege of voting it makes me want to never miss the opportunity to vote. Align yourself with the party that best represents what you feel is important and get out and vote. There are many people in this world that would like to have the privilege that we sometimes take for granted, of voting for the candidates that we feel will do the best job of representing us.
What a great time to reflect on voting at this 4th of July celebration.

Because the 4th falls on Wednesday, we will be celebrating tomorrow at Burns Mailing & Printing, with an employee luncheon. We really love sitting down with each other and visiting about things other than work. Some times we all bring things but tomorrow we are having it catered.
This is a good time to reflect on the freedom that we have in this country and to honor those who made that freedom possible and to those who are serving now to protect our country. We thank them for their service and appreciate the sacrifices that they and their families make.
May all of you have a blessed and safe 4th of July.

It is Friday and who doesn’t need a break. After sitting at a computer all day Amy, our Mailing Manager need a break and came into my office to play with Lincoln. He has been lazy all day, snoring under my desk. She had to coax him from under my desk to get him to play. It is Friday and I think that he has started his weekend early. Oh wait, he doesn’t do anything every day, he is living the life. He could be just a bit spoiled.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. I am having my attic cleaned out, bright and early in the morning. It will be interesting to see what is up there. A lot of my two daughters things from childhood and teenage years. Joy once asked he when were we cleaning out the attic. I told her we were not cleaning it out, we were going to die and let them clean it out. I changed my mind on that. Joy will be here next Friday, no telling what might end up in her car.

There are a lot of things happening at my house this summer. One is that I am keeping my Granddaughter’s dog, Lincoln for two weeks. Today was the first day that he came to work with me and he really loved it when he came in and saw all the people who wanted to pet him. After the excitement died down he just pretty much sleeps under my desk. He likes confined spaces, I guess it makes him feel secure.
The second thing is that I am doing some work to my kitchen. 32 years ago Ken and his two best friends took out all the old cabinets and put in new ones. Ken and I sat down at the house we had just bought and planned out the kitchen. We must have done a pretty good job because in 32 years I have never once thought that I would like to change something. Instead of new cabinets, I opted to paint them through a company called the Painted Room. They have been customers of mine in the past and I like to do business with folks who do business with me. The doors and drawers have been off for over a week and tomorrow they come and put all the drawers and doors back in place. Can’t wait to see how it will look. The next step is new counter tops and back splash.
It is hectic at my house, I think I need a beach trip.
At Burns we are not so hectic that we can’t handle your design, print and direct mail needs. Call me today at 865 584-2265 or email me at email@example.com.
P.S. I am looking for a social media guru to help me with marketing and social media. Know someone who would might be interested? Call me at the above number.

For next two weeks I will be having a special guest, Grand Puppy, Lincoln. He will be visiting while my granddaughter Kate goes to camp and my daughter Joy and her husband John take a vacation.
Lincoln is a very sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are very laid back and loving dogs. He will love coming to work with me and getting all the attention from my employees.
It will be really different at my house after not having a pet for over 10 years. That is what Grand Puppy’s are for, you love them, spoil them and send them back home.
