When I was in school, we won’t say how many years ago that was, we did not start until after Labor Day. Labor Day always reminds me that fall is just around the corner. U.T. will be playing their first game this week. The leaves may not be orange just yet but the town has certainly turned orange. I was at a doctor’s office this morning and everyone had on orange, on Face Book I see pictures of kids all dressed in orange.
I love Knoxville and the spirit that this town has. We may not all agree on politics but I think most of us agree to support the Vols. Go big orange.

This has been a busy week of networking. I am in several networking groups and have made long lasting friendships. The picture is from one that is called KWIN (Knoxville Women In Networking). It is a very supportive group of women who want to see each other succeed. We meet once a month and it is industry specific. I represent printing and mailing and my new account representative, Suzanne McCarter (who is President) represents promotional products. In fact, KWIN is where I met Suzanne. We share some of the personal things going on in our life and when she shared that she was looking for a change, it just fell into place. I believe that God has a plan for us and some things that we think just happened were in God’s plan all along.
I am also a 19 year member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). AFP is a national and international association of non-profit fundraisers. Yesterday we met at Second Harvest Food Bank. I have learned about so many of the needs that non-profit organizations have in fundraising. It has helped me help them because so many of them are my customers also. I have made many friends in the non-profit field in 19 years. They have a passion for people and their community and Knoxville would be a much different city without them. Can you imagine being in a group of more caring people? What I have benefited most in networking is that I get to hand out with strong women and wonderful non-profit fundraisers who go beyond to help their community. I could not ask for any more than that.

It is assumed that because we are living in the digital world that print must be dead. That could not be further from the truth. I have written about this before but I think it deserves another go around. Canon Print for Actions conducted an independent third-party survey and found that 69% of Americans surveyed felt the constant influx of digital information was overwhelming. I feel this everyday as I try to clean out my inbox with sometimes 50 -60 email messages in my junk email files. They may be in my junk files but i still have to look through them to make sure that a customers email did not accidentally go to spam. On the other hand 55% of Americans surveyed said that printed direct mail was more influential and carried more weight with them.
I am not knocking the digital world, in fact I use both digital and direct mail in my marketing efforts. A lot of our marketing collateral is personalized. The same survey that talked about earlier said that people they surveyed said that they spent more time reviewing direct mail when it was personalized and relevant.
