Association Of Fundraising Professional’s Non-Profit Seminar For Direct Mail

AFP Direct Mail Seminar for non-profit organizations

Last week Red Bird Consulting and Burns Mailing & Printing did a seminar on direct mail. As a former development director for several non-profit organizations Freddie Birdwell, with Red Bird Consulting, is an expert in her field. Amy Motsinger, our mailing manager, has 14 years experience with Burns Mailing & Printing. This gave the attendees information from the concept of their mailing to the most economical way to manage their database, best printing options, list hygiene and ways to save money on postage and meet all the USPS postal regulations.

Burns Mailing & Printing offers free consultation on direct mail for our customers. Call us at 865 584-2265 or email phyllis@burnsmp.com

I Love Viola TN, Smaller Than Mayberry

I often travel from Knoxville to Winchester TN where my daughter and her husband have a lake house on the Tims Ford lake. I pass through this quaint little town, Viola, on my way down. I could not help but stop and take pictures of the post office, town hall, church and yes..Floyd’s Barber Shop. The drive down is a beautiful drive with the mountains on my left and the beautiful farm land an nurseries on my right. It is truly a road well traveled.

Time To Start Non-Profit Appeals

Non-profits do you ever feel like this when thinking of annual appeals.

You know non-profit appeals can be made easy with the right help. At Burns, most of our non-profit customers send us a word file with the copy and any pictures that they want to use and we handle the rest. First our graphic designers lay-out the letter with the help of our mailing manager, they made sure that everything meets postal regulations and the lay-out that will save our non-profit organizations the most money. The letter is then proofed back to the customer, along with proofs for the envelopes and any other items to be included in the mailing. Upon receipt of the list, we can provide the amount of postage needed to the penny. We then send quotes for the printing and mailing labor. The customer provides us with a desired mailing date and we work with them to try and make their desired mailing date. That is the importance of starting early so that they don’t get in the rush of other non-profits all wanting their appeals mailed at the same time. We have some non-profits who are already gearing up or mailing their appeals now.

We make it easy and our customers know that they have the very lowest postage possible or their mailing. Also we now offer promotional products for their events. This is four good reasons to use Burns Mailing & Printing…Design, Printing (both digital and offset), direct mail and promotional products.

A Personal Challenge

I don’t usually write about personal challenges but I a making an exception today as I want to share something that could be important for you. In July of this year I found out that I have Hepatitis C (a blood borne disease that can mostly by spread by blood transfusions, shared needles, and tattoos) . I had blood transfusions in 1975, before testing for Hep C was available and that is how I got Hep C. But wait that was 44 years ago. The virus can lay dormant for decades and in the meantime can be damaging your liver. I have never been so shocked in my life. As a matter of fact, I told my daughter that there is no way I have Hep C. Lets be clear, I am not a drug user, and I do not have tattoos.

Fortunately for me, in the last 2-3 years they have drugs that have a 98% cure rate. Unfortunately the drugs are very expensive costing up to $80,000 for treatment. I am blessed that I have Humana Insurance and they are paying for most of it.

The main reason I wanted to share this is because 300,000 million Americans are infected with the Hep C virus and don’t know it. I am a prime example. If you have had blood transfusions before they tested the blood for things like Hep C, if you have had a tattoo or any risky behavior, I strongly urge you to get a Hep C test. It is a simple blood test and can be done at any doctor’s office. The Hep C virus damages the liver and can lead to liver cancer.

I am doing well and have very little side affects from the drug. I am blessed and God is walking this journey with me.
