Professional and Skilled Mailing Department at Burns Mailing & Printing

Recently I met one of my customers when I was coming out of the polling place to vote.  He was a candidate in the election and we had helped him with his campaign in the design department, printing department and mailing department.  He said “the reason that he like coming to Burns was that it was one stop and it was done and he did not have to worry about running all over town”.  By the way he won in the election.

Our mailing manager plays a big part in making each mailing a success.  The customers jobs move from one experienced department to the next and finally to the mail box.

Voting Is Our Responsibility

I probably think more about election time than most because we design, print and mail a lot of political mail.  When I stop to think about the history of our country and how many men and women have died to give us the privilege of voting it makes me want to never miss the opportunity to vote.  Align yourself with the party that best represents what you feel is important and get out and vote. There are many people in this world that would like to have the privilege that we sometimes take for granted, of voting for the candidates that we feel will do the best job of representing us.

4th of July In The Middle Of The Week

Because the 4th falls on Wednesday, we will be celebrating tomorrow at Burns Mailing & Printing, with an employee luncheon.  We really love sitting down with each other and visiting about things other than work.  Some times we all bring things but tomorrow we are having it catered.

This is a good time to reflect on the freedom that we have in this country and to honor those who made that freedom possible and to those who are serving now to protect our country.  We thank them for their service and appreciate the sacrifices that they and their families make.

Peony Flowers, And What Memories They Hold For Me

My mailing Manager, Amy Motsinger brought me this lovely bouquet of Peonies.  I mentioned that these were my Mother’s favorite flowers so she wanted me to have this beautiful arrangement that she picked from her yard.

My family, as did many other families, in my childhood had decoration day at the cemetery and then usually a dinner outside at a relative’s house.  I loved it because I got to play with all my cousins.  Mother grew the Peonies to put on the graves of her parents and other loved ones.  She called them “Pineys”.  It was not until I was an adult that I knew that they were called Peony.  I can remember her say “I sure hope my Pineys are in bloom by decoration day”. The flowers were picked and put into big tubs of water to later be put in vases at the cemetery.   My brother-in-law, Delmar Haynes, joked that his job was to carry the tub on decoration day. It is strange how just a flower can invoke memories of childhood.  My sisters and I have carried on the tradition of putting the flowers on the graves at Asbury Cemetery but we don’t grow the flowers we buy them from a green house.  I wonder if the tradition will continue after we are gone?

WOW! What Great Color We Are Getting Out Of Our New Konica Minolta Accurio C6085 Digital Press

We ran our first jobs on the new digital press yesterday after they finished the installation and the color and registration is EXCELLENT.  We also have finishing capabilities such as booklet making and stitching.  The thing that we did not have before was the banner capabilities.  I am not talking about banners that you hang with grommets,  but the ability to print much longer sheets of paper and other substrates.

We would love to have you schedule a visit and see for yourself the quality of color.

First Hand Look At Puerto Rico

When some folks heard that we were going to Puerto Rico, they were surprised because they thought that the whole island would be bad because of the recent hurricane.  I have included a few pictures to show you that yes, there is still damage to San Juan but not enough to disrupt everyday life.  The people in Puerto Rico are so friendly and very much appreciative of tourist coming back to the island.  We used Ubber a lot and almost every one thanked us for coming.  One driver described the night of the hurricane and how they had to move from room to room because it was so bad.  However, the people of Puerto Rico are resilient and they will continue to live on the island that they love.  We found a restaurant that we liked and we ate there three nights.  We had the same waitress and every time we came she hugged each one of us.  We all loved the people that we came in contact and the friendly welcome that they gave us.

The food was uniquely Puerto Rico style and it was good. I have included a picture of a Burger King with a sign that said “La Casa Del Whopper”.  We thought that was funny but we skipped that restaurant.

If you have considered going to Puerto Rico, I recommend that San Juan is a great place to visit and apparently the cruise folks agree because there were cruise ships docking in Old San Juan. We were proud to see about 30 men from Arizona Power Service on the plane when we were leaving.  They have been working to restore power to the areas that are still affected.  They told us that other power companies were sending workers as well. I hope that our government and our people will help the people of Puerto Rico.  They are our own.

Burns Mailing & Printing Adds New Digital Press

I am pleased to announce that we are putting in a second digital press this month.  It is a Konica Minolta Accurio 66085.

Some of the features are;

  • Automated color calibration.
  • 1200 dpi resolution
  • Accurate color to meet G7 & and Gracol standards
  • Banner printing up to 47 inches
  • Capability of printing on up to 18 pt. paper or 400 gsm
  • High Speed Scanning

As always we can print and address for mailing all on one pass of the press. Print booklets or magazines with saddle stitching and face trimming.

Amazing Vintage Footage Of Gladys Ingalls Repairing An Airplane Midair

Amazing Old Aviation movie.
Without a Parachute Mid air repair…by a woman 1924.
Fabulous footage, although grainy due to time and bad equipment in those days compared to today.
Gladys Ingalls was a member of a barnstorming troupe called the 13 Black Cats in the 1920’s. Ingles was a wing walker; in this film, she shows her fearlessness in classic barnstorming fashion to save an airplane that has lost one of its main landing gear wheels. Ingalls is shown with a replacement wheel being strapped to her back and then off she goes as “Up She Goes,” a duet from the era, provides the soundtrack.
In the film, Ingalls transfers herself from the rescue plane to the one missing the main landing gear tire. She then works herself down to the undercarriage only a few feet from a spinning propeller. It’s certainly a feat many mechanics wouldn’t even try on the ground with the engine running.
