July 4th in the past has been all about picnics, being with family, gathering with friends and generally celebrating together. This year we will still celebrate but probably just scaled back. I will enjoy our 4th of July parade in my neighborhood as the children ride their bikes, a fire truck will be in the parade and others will be walking. I look forward to this each year as the children ride their bikes and wagons that they have decorated.

Lincoln is coming this weekend for Grammy camp. I keep him every summer for a couple of weeks so that his family can go on do some fun things. He is a Caviler King Charles Spaniel. He is the most laid back dog I have ever seen. He hardly ever barks and is content to sleep and be petted.
I bring him to work with me when he is at Grammy camp and he comes in and greets everyone, gets petted and then he gets under my desk and sleeps until it is time for a walk outside.
Stop by and see Lincoln, if you are a dog lover. I will wake him up to greet you.
Last Thursday, Kai Brown, our production manager and I flew to Jacksonville FL to tour one of our vendors plant. It was very informative and gave us new ideas to work with them. The meeting ended at 9:30 and our flight was not until 5:00 PM on Friday. St. Augustine is about 40 minutes from Jacksonville so we decided to go play tourists for a few hours. The weather had been great in Jacksonville, sunny and no rain in sight but when we got to St. Augustine and started walking around it started raining. We ducked (no pun intended) into a store and bought some ponchos.
Kai is Vegan and I have 20 food allergies so finding a place to eat was a little tricky. Kai was in charge of that and we found some really good places to eat. We made it back to the airport and had delay after delay due to bad weather in Charlotte. We finally made it back to the Knoxville airport around 11:00 PM. A great trip and well worth doing the tour.

It seems like spring is finally here and I love the beauty of this year. However, it was confusing as to whether it was winter or spring. One thing that we are not confused about is that it is time for our non-profit friends to get those newsletters, appeal, post cards and invitations in the mail.

This marks 25 year of being at our location at 6131 Industrial Heights Dr, Knoxville, TN. We purchased the property in 1994 and built on to the existing building to make a total of 8400 square feet. A lot has happened in those 25 years. We lost our founder, Ken Burns, in 2014. We have had some new employees and some move on or retired. The only thing that does not change is that we have a great team of employees and we appreciate our customers. In 2018 we were selected as the AAF Big Wig Award winner for the best fulfillment/direct mail company in Knoxville.

My emergency this week was that I opened my last jar of strawberry jam that my daughter, Joy Day, and I make. Strawberry is my favorite although we make peach, plum and apple butter. It is getting close to time when those beautiful strawberries will be in season and we can make more for us to stock up for the year. It is quite a production as we make enough for her family and me. It is also very messy and time consuming but sooo worth it. The jam that you buy in the store does not even begin to compare to what you can make at home. We look pretty scroungy in the pictures of us making jam, so I though that I would put one of us together where we are looking a little nicer.
Working on a mailing list today, I got very frustrated when I lost about 30 minutes of work. Now I don’t usually do files for mailing but this was a list that I wanted to go over to take out names that were no longer relevant. Fortunately for me and for Burns Mailing & Printing, I have an employee who is way beyond Guru when it comes to Excel and our mailing lists. She has many tricks up her sleeve when it comes to getting our customers files ready for mailing.
I am a mailer and I am about to do a mailing, so yes, I definitely believe in direct mail.
If you are ready for your next direct mail project, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 865 584-2265 for a free print and mail estimate.
