Grand Puppy is Coming This Weekend

Lincoln, my grand puppy

Lincoln is coming this weekend for Grammy camp. I keep him every summer for a couple of weeks so that his family can go on do some fun things. He is a Caviler King Charles Spaniel. He is the most laid back dog I have ever seen. He hardly ever barks and is content to sleep and be petted.

I bring him to work with me when he is at Grammy camp and he comes in and greets everyone, gets petted and then he gets under my desk and sleeps until it is time for a walk outside.

Stop by and see Lincoln, if you are a dog lover. I will wake him up to greet you.

TN Free Fishing Day Is This Saturday June 8th.

Free Fishing Day This Saturday!
The 2019 Free Fishing Day is this Saturday, June 8. Anyone may fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency provides the annual free day in hopes of increasing interest in fishing. The day allows anyone the opportunity to try this great outdoor sport, especially children to celebrate fishing as a wholesome and healthy recreational option. In addition, children ages 15 and younger may fish without a license beginning on Free Fishing Day through the following Friday (June 14). The day and week are annual events in Tennessee and are great opportunities to introduce children to the enjoyment and excitement of a day on the water catching fish. The TWRA is among several organizations planning special fishing events, primarily for youngsters. The TWRA annually stocks several thousand pounds of fish for various events. For a list of the events, visit the TWRA website at www.tnwildlife.org and click the Fishing tab. Anglers and potential anglers should check the events list often since special events are frequently added. Free Fishing Day and Week apply to Tennessee’s public waters, TWRA owned and operated lakes, and state park facilities. Some privately owned pay lakes and ponds continue to charge during this special day and week. Anglers will need to consult with those operators if there are any questions about a particular facility.

I Had An Emergency At My House This Week – Not The 911 Kind

My emergency this week was that I opened my last jar of strawberry jam that my daughter, Joy Day, and I make.  Strawberry is my favorite although we make peach, plum and apple butter. It is getting close to time when those beautiful strawberries will be in season and we can make more for us to stock up for the year.  It is quite a production as we make enough for her family and me.  It is also very messy and time consuming but sooo worth it. The jam that you buy in the store does not even begin to compare to what you can make at home.  We look pretty scroungy in the pictures of us making jam, so I though that I would put one of us together where we are looking a little nicer.

AN Excel Guru I Am Not

Working on a mailing list today, I got very frustrated when I lost about 30 minutes of work. Now I don’t usually do files for mailing but this was a list that I wanted to go over to take out names that were no longer relevant.  Fortunately for me and for Burns Mailing & Printing, I have an employee who is way beyond Guru when it comes to Excel and our mailing lists.  She has many tricks up her sleeve when it comes to getting our customers files ready for mailing.

I am a mailer and I am about to do a mailing, so yes, I definitely believe in direct mail.

If you are ready for your next direct mail project, email me at phyllis@burnsmp.com or call 865 584-2265 for a free print and mail estimate.

What The Design Department Does At Burns Mailing & Printing

You may have the idea that our graphic designers just lay-out post cards, brochures etc., but they do much much more.  In fact our design department, along with our production manager, manage the print production. They control and run our digital presses. They send files to our plate maker so that our pressman can make the printing plates to go on the offset presses.  They can even program our paper cutter so that the the bindery operators can pull up the job ticket number and the paper cutter is programmed for that job. They also check graphic files and make a print out for our mailing manager to check,  to make sure that they meet postal specifications before printing.  We check each file that comes in, even if we did not design the job.

We say “we are a printer that knows mailing and a mailer that knows printing”.  This adds up to a true one-stop convenience for our customers. Each job moves from department to department efficiently until the final stop, the United States Postal Service.   All of these services under one roof…it is a big roof.

If you don’t need the cost of an ad agency, but want to have some printed materials printed or mailed, call me, Phyllis Burns, at 865 584-2265 or email me at phyllis@burnsmp.com.

Fall Reminds Me Of Purchasing Our Building

In 1993, we were purchasing the building where we current operate Burns Mailing & Printing.  I had been out looking for a building and property and asked my neighbor Ron Kirkham if he knew of any commercial buildings where his business was located.  He told me that a lady had some property across from him.  It was owned by a lady whose husband had died and the business was shut down.  I decided to drive by and the lady just happened to be at the building.  We talked about the business that she and her late husband had run together.  She showed me around the building and I asked her if Ken and I could come back later in the afternoon so that he could see it.  We came back and he liked it as much as I did so we gave her a down payment and purchased the building. In 1994 we remodeled the building and added another 5400 square feet of production.  She liked the idea of another husband and wife purchasing and running the business together.

It was in the fall and the leaves looked much like the picture that I took this morning.  Things change just like the leaves in fall, but 25 years later Burns is still offering quality printing, graphic design and direct mail services.
